One of our large manufacturing clients reclaims high pressure super-heated steam condensate water. The special low NPSHR pump required, regularly sees the super-heated water flash off as steam – a disaster for mechanical seals and bearings. This makes for very short Mean-Time-Between-Failures (MTBF).
Here at Allflo, our engineering team came up with a solution, more resistant to the abuse:
- Instead of an elastomer driven shaft seal, we now use a metal bellows type, with Kalrez O-rings; good for very high temperatures
- Instead of ineffective paper-thin gaskets, stage segments are sealed with high temperature aviation gaskets.
